Review: Red Paddle Co MSL Compact SUP board

This year has seen the rise in popularity of SUP (stand up paddling) in the UK, with so many of us now opting for outdoor adventures and looking to try new activities. Red Paddle Co reached out to us to ask if we would like to review one of their boards, we opted for the 11′ MSL compact Red SUP board.

Red SUP board review

I have other SUP boards (which are great), but they’re aimed more at beginners and now that I have built up confidence and skills, it was time to upgrade and test out a proper touring SUP. The increased length of the compact MSL board makes it perfect for longer period of time and adventures.

The increased length makes this board perfect for longer paddling adventures and paddlers travelling the world with their SUP. Designed with a more drawn out shape to increase glide, the 11’0 Compact is ideal for paddlers who want to travel and explore without limitation.

How compact is it?

The Red Paddle Co 11′ MSL compact is the brands second addition to their range of compact boards, this full-sized touring board packs down to have the size of a standard paddle board.

My only issue with the compact boards is that they’re a little more difficult to pack away, purely due to the size of the bag and effort needed to deflate and fold away. If you’re a pro then this probably isn’t an issue, it did get easier the second time around as I knew the method required to get it folded in small.

The size of this compact Red SUP board makes it perfect for travelling, with it’s enhanced durability and weighing just 8.4kg, with everything you need packing conveniently into a 560mm by 420mm backpack.

How easy is it to inflate?

The MSL compact Red SUP board is super easy to inflate. It comes with their Titan II Pump which is the world’s first purpose-built, double chamber SUP pump. The pump is designed to save time and effort. We tested this out comparing a standard pump and this definitely took less effort. The Red Paddle Co pump has a Dual Cylinder system and a Hi Flo handle, meaning that you’re able to control the energy at different stages.

Would we recommend?

For anyone looking to upgrade to a touring or travelling board, then yes absolutely! This compact board is perfect for advanced paddle boarding and longer journeys. For anyone looking for a beginner board, then check out Red Paddle Co range of all round boards.
